Real Madrid was keen to sign Eden Hazard from Chelsea last summer but the deal failed. Madrid Boss Zidane is a great admirer of Belgian playmaker but puts Chelsea's defensive midfielder N'Golo Kante as his top transfer priority.
Kante signed for Chelsea from Leicester after helping the Foxes win the Premier League title in 2016.
The France international then helped the Blues lift the trophy in his debut season at Stamford Bridge - scooping the PFA Player of the Year award along the way.
So good has the midfielder been that he has drawn comparisons with Blues hero Claude Makelele.
The 44-year-old signed for Chelsea from Real Madrid in the summer of 2003 and helped them win five major trophies across a five-year spell in the capital.
Real boss Zinedine Zidane played alongside the Frenchman during his playing days.
Zinedine Zidane wants N'Golo Kante to be his own version of Claude Makelele. Real Madrid would love to sign N'Golo Kante from Chelsea.
And Spanish outlet Don Balon say the manager wants to bring a Makelele of his own to the Bernabeu in the form of Kante.
It is said he wanted to sign the midfielder last summer but Chelsea ultimately won the race for his signature.
